Published benchmarks and your quotation
| Item | Budget / requirement | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Published installation benchmark | About £12,000 | Energy Saving Trust typical air source heat-pump installation figure. |
| Property-specific work | Confirm in the quote | Emitters, cylinder, controls, pipework, electrics and access can affect the total. |
| Grant or loan support | Eligibility must be confirmed | Check the current Home Energy Scotland scheme and approval requirements. |
Reference figures are not Aura prices. Confirm the complete scope and total payable, including the applicable VAT treatment, in your written quotation.
Budget for more than the outdoor unit
A complete proposal needs to explain how heat reaches each room and how domestic hot water is supplied. Ask whether the price includes assessment, necessary radiator changes, cylinder work, electrical connections, controls and commissioning. A low equipment price cannot be compared fairly with a whole-system quotation.
Check funding before you commit
Home Energy Scotland is the relevant starting point for Scottish grant and loan support. Read the current eligibility and application terms before signing or starting work. The funding route has installer and product certification requirements; establish the proposed arrangements in writing rather than assuming that any heat-pump qualification is sufficient.
Confirm the proposed delivery route with Aura
Ask who will design, install and commission the system, which business provides any required certification and what documents you will receive. For a grant-dependent proposal, obtain written confirmation that the installer, product and project meet the scheme requirements before making a financial commitment.
Compare the design assumptions
Two prices may allow for different radiator upgrades, water temperatures, hot-water provision and electrical work. Ask for the intended scope and performance assumptions before deciding which is better value. An estimated seasonal efficiency is a design expectation, not a guaranteed reading for every winter.
Plan for service and operating costs
Ask about the maintenance schedule and retain commissioning settings and records. Estimate electricity use using the home’s heat demand and a realistic seasonal performance assumption, then apply your actual tariff. A heat pump does not automatically cost less to run than a gas boiler in every property.
Your quotation checklist
- Exact equipment and the rooms or functions it will serve
- Survey, installation, access and any additional trades
- Controls, commissioning and handover documents
- Warranty conditions, servicing and support arrangements
- Full price, VAT treatment, exclusions and payment stages
Your questions answered
Does the benchmark already guarantee a funded price?
No. It is a general installation reference. The gross quotation, eligibility, funding approval and final amount payable must be established separately.
Is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme the Scottish scheme?
No. For a Scottish home, start with Home Energy Scotland and its current funding guidance. Do not assume rules or offers from other UK nations apply.
